Paris Saint-Germain Defeats Olympique de Marseille on Penalties to Claim French Super Cup in the Middle East.
The Parisian club has now secured the season-opening cup on fourteen separate occasions.
Paris Saint-Germain required a stoppage-time equaliser followed by a perfect spot-kick decider to get past Marseille in the Gulf and secure a record-extending fourth consecutive French Super Cup victory.
The European champions seemed to be coasting towards a comfortable triumph in the match between the French league winners and the Coupe de France winners after the French winger opened the scoring in the opening stages.
Yet, Marseille fired twice in the closing moments to take a shock lead. First, Mason Greenwood converted from the penalty spot, before the defender unfortunately turned the ball into his own net for an own-goal.
In a breathtaking turn of fortune, Goncalo Ramos grabbed a vital leveler in the final seconds to force the contest into a deciding shootout. PSG goalkeeper Chevalier then emerged as the hero, saving crucial kicks from Matt O'Riley and Hamed Traore.
From the spot, Ramos, the midfielder, the full-back, and Desire Doue all converted successfully for Paris Saint-Germain to seal a convincing shootout victory.
Now 14-time winners PSG, who faced last season's Ligue 1 second-placed team Marseille after achieving a domestic double, have now lifted this trophy for the 12th time in the past 13 years.
